The Legend of the Woodcutter: A Michigan Retelling
Written and Illustrated by Alisha Wells

Light cascades through the brightly colored leaves,
and one can almost feel the crisp autumn air kiss their cheeks as readers once again take in the magic of the messages Alisha brings to her readers. Sounds of the robins and smells of the fresh baked bread invite the reader to become a part of this wonderful world of the woodcutter.
Each page is skillfully illustrated as the reader experiences the story not only though the written word, but also in the warm but subtle implications present in the vibrant pictures. The stained glass illustrations serve as an excellent window through which we can see the story unfold.
And every good story has a good purpose as its companion. Often Alisha’s stories focus on building a positive self-image in the hearts of her readers. While that principle continues to be at the heart of the author’s work, this story takes her messaging further in the effort to make the world a more hopeful place.
Too often people, both young and old, equate their self-worth to the things they have done. While choices and actions certainly play a role in shaping the character of a person, the value of a person is not found on a to-do list. Alisha gently reminds her readers that they are more than their grades, their pay checks, or more poignantly the amount of things they push themselves to get done in a day. Aesop’s Fable the Tortoise and the Hare certainly had it’s time in encouraging commitment and dedication. However, in a world where everything seems to have claim our our attention, maybe a little rest might be in order now and again.
Follow this story of two ambitious, good hearted woodcutters as they discover what helps the best find their success. When you do, perhaps the light of Alisha’s new publication can gently find a place in your hearts and homes, and you will see your next task with a fresh perspective!
