Alisha Wells is the author and illustrator of the newly released children’s story Being Beautiful: A Discovery of Self-worth. Alisha revisits the classic Hans Christian Andersen story of The Ugly Duckling, and modernizes the message for this generation of youth. Alisha has been creating stories for her family for decades, and is now sharing those writings publicly. Her publishing house, Heartfire Books, is working diligently to keep up with her publishing/release ambitions. She completed her second publication, Out to Play, less than a year later in the beginning of 2020.

Alisha loved her time as an undergrad student at the University of Michigan-Flint. She entered school to become an elementary school teacher in 2000. While teaching is still a passion, it was in her anthropology classes that her studies came to life. Alisha immersed herself in exploring the rich diversity of the world. In her studies, she discovered that everyone has a story they want to share. Writing has allowed her to combine the thrill of teaching and the discovery/empowerment found in anthropology.

Although she is not a classically trained artist, Wells a takes particular satisfaction creating illustrations to convey her stories for readers of all ages. From pencil sketches to digital renditions, Wells has utilized many formats to edify her writing efforts.

Alisha is a passionate advocate for libraries and promoting literacy, and is often found volunteering at her local elementary school. Reading was a large aspect of her childhood, and she would like all children to be given the same advantage.
